Review Time! Anatomy of a Darkened Heart

Hey everybody, welcome back to the blog.  I’m taking a break from old Negative Man today (don’t tell him, he’s already tried to hack my Facebook account) and going to do a book review instead.  I’ve read a lot of awesome books lately from Indie authors, but today’s selection is particularly intriguing.  Before I say anymore, on to the review:

Anatomy of a Darkened Heart

By Christie Stratos

“In a wonderfully twisted way, the dark imagery from this book comes to life like no other. The setting is in the 1900’s, during the Victorian era. It’s obvious the author has a love for the time period as it shows in her writing. She did a masterful job of creating an atmosphere that was just as chilling as the plot of the book itself.

From the first page when the mother shows disdain for her first child through all the twists and turns that ramp up the psychological nature of the story, this story delivers just as the description said it would. It was a tough story to put down and now I’m curious to see where it goes from here.”

A few quick points to add here.  First, the author sets the scene incredibly well.  This is a dark fiction book from both a plot standpoint yet also a setting point of view.  That’s a lost art in my opinion (one I’m equally guilty of too).  When the setting jives with the feel of the plot, man it just amplifies the reading experience.

Second, it is refreshing to see an author write with an absolute love of the story they’ve created.  Some authors just have an idea they think will make lots of money and go with it.  Others get tired of their writing and it shows.  When you find a book where the story and author are in-sync, it’s a joy to read.

You know what?  Don’t take my word for any of this.  Go check out Anatomy of a Darkened Heart yourself.  Here’s the link:

That’s it for today.  Come back tomorrow as I drop an excellent BBQ chicken recipe on all of you.  Later!
